Yesterday kicked our tails, so we decided to go a bit easier today. Our original was to bike across the island, stopping to see some sights. Last night, we decided nope, too tired to do it. And we decided to rent e-bikes, but alas we couldn’t find the rental place. In the end, we hired a taxi which was a perfect way to do it.
First stop was El Junco, which was a freshwater lagoon in the caldera of a dormant volcano. It boasts to have lots of birds, and you can see frigate birds bathing. We walked up a misty trail, and to a viewing platform. And yes, we saw some frigate birds bathing. We also saw some finches but cut the hike short as it was really muddy and visibility was low.
Our next stop was Galapaguera Del Cerro Colorado. A facility to help with re-establishing the Tortuga. Las Tortugas Del Galapagos were almost extinct due to being easy food for passing boats and colonists. They have bounced back due to the conservancy effort, but still quite short of their original 100,000 population on San Cristobal. We walked through the garden and saw quite a few Tortugas, and also a hatchery.

A definite highlight of the day. The only animals we haven’t seen that we really want to are flamingos and penguins.

Our last stop was Puerto Chino, a lovely beach. The plan was to snorkel but the seas were too rough. So we just ate a snack. I took a nap and ash watched crabs fight each other
.

We are resting now prior to watching the sunset at a nearby beach. Tomorrow we head to Isabela.
