Dalat is a lovely city in the hills in Vietnam. It feels a bit like Switzerland with the architecture and the vibe of the city. It was also hopping with tourists, mainly Vietnamese and Russian ones.
We visited the Dr Suess house in the afternoon. It reminded us of Meow Wolf, without the mystery. It had these fun walkways and arty rooms. After that, we got massages and then had a lovely Indian dinner.
Yesterday we had to do a bit of work. We didn’t arrange any accommodations, so we needed to do some planning. We have had a bit of an issue finding accommodation to our liking in one of our spots. We felt the need to get our plan on.
After the work, we visited the flower garden in Dalat. Dalat had flowers everywhere, but the park had a higher concentration of them. We did eat some Korean BBQ last night, and it was quite yummy. In fact, the food overall has been fantastic. The thing is that it leaves you feeling empty maybe 30 minutes later. The Korean bbq place had a Vietnam war theme to it. all the servers wore camo, it looked like barracks. This isn’t something that was unique to this place. We have noticed quite a bit of Vietnam war themed things all over the place. It is pretty common to see people in US fatigues or variants of them. We even saw a bar that was called the DMZ and it had barbedwire as a a decoration. The Vietnam war in America isn’t really a relevant cultural topic. Here it is still a big deal.
Eating street food in Dalat.
Beautiful orchids!
I was also struck by the overwhelming cultural presence of the war. Your observations are spot on!
