We had heard good things about the trek out to crocodile lake in Cat Tien NP. The spot was known for its birding, so you know who was interested in going. Today, we decided to do it. You can take a Jeep ride and then walk but we decided to bike it.
We read it as a 5 KM bike ride but it turned out to be a 5 mile bike ride. Then a 3 mile hike. All told it took us 3 hours to get to the lake. By the time we got there, it was 10am and getting hot. Birds were sparse. We did see a purple swamp hen, which looks exactly like you imagine. We also saw a fish eagle, but not much else.
The trek back was quite hot and not all that pleasant. We did see what we think was a Languar, but we are not positive it was.
We leave tomorrow for Da Lat with a quick boat tour before. We quite enjoyed our stay at Cat Tien NP. The photo above and on the cover are photos from our lodge, the green hope lodge. We have quite enjoyed our stay here.
We did a bit of tweaks to our travel plans. Readers of this blog know that our plan was to be nimble and take us where the road leads us. Our original sketch was to visit a secluded beach near Nha Trang. On review, we elected to head north and skip that beach. The beach looked beautiful but would have involved several long bus rides, and potentially an overnight train. Instead we have opted to fly from Da Lat to Hue. We will find a beach near Hue to visit, that might offer easier transit options. We will also potentially add a trip to a park with some caves, as we have thoroughly enjoyed the park we already visited.
