The Pantry

So after experiences a couple unpleasant travel days due to hunger and no access to places to eat, we decided to start carting food around to make sure that we eat. We have a gallon ziploc bag that we use for this, and we call it the pantry. We also recently obtained a plastic Tupperware like container we call the cupboard. Right now the contents of the pantry and cupboard include……some terrible tasting crackers, two tomatoes, one loaf of bread, a few peanuts, raisans, and some chocolate crème cookies.

BTW – we are in Budapest now. We had a nice time in Eger, except that everything was closed on Monday. Ashley will write a post about Eger shortly.

  1. We had pastries from the metro station twice!!!! Both times they were good, actually the reason we had it the second time was the first time was so tasty

  2. Don't forget to try the pastries! There are lots of places to stop. Even the subways have "tacska" known as pockets. Sort of breakfast pastries with fruit or cream cheese (like a danish). Mmmm

  3. 1. no dried shrimp please
    2. we had a great veggie dinner last night at Govinda's buffet, quite close to the chain bridge. Cheap too.
    3. We are heading to a batyhs in about 20 minutes, but going to one that starts with a k, which is supposed to be the 2nd best one (according to Frommers) and is a lot closer to our place.

  4. Go to the baths at the Gellert Hotel on the Buda side of Budapest. You will instantly forget your food woes when you soak in the water! There is such a good vegetarian restaurant in the city, too (Pest side). Enjoy!
